TEV and MSGSÜ '1st International Nuri İyicil Violin Competition'


In collaboration with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University's (MSGSÜ) State Conservatory, Turkish Educational Foundation (TEV) has organized an international violin completion, which was first of its kind in Turkey, at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall between October 20th – 28th, 2008.

The competition has been organized in memory of Prof. Nuri İYİCİL, who has been Turkey's most important violin artists and at the same time professor at the MSGSÜ State Conservatory but unfortunately passed away in 2005 while at the peak of his carrier, under the main sponsorship of TÜPRAŞ and the support of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency. Expectation is to see this competition as one of the most important building blocks at the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture among Turkey's international activities. The competition had been proposed by Prof. Nuri İYİCİL's student and is aimed to be repeated every three years after 2010.

The jury was formed by prominent names from the world of culture and art, such as Prof. Suna KAN, Prof. Ayla ERDURAN, Prof. Gönül GÖKDOĞAN, Prof Barbara GORZYNSKA, and Prof. Domenico NORDIO and the jury chairman has been Prof. Çiğdem İYİCİL, the wife of Prof. Nuri İYİCİL.

49 young musicians from 16 countries applied for this meaningful competition. The Council of Honor was formed by journalist-writer Doğan HIZLAN, TEV Chairman of the Board of Directors Ömer KOÇ, Prof. Filiz ALI, MSGSU Rector Prof. Rahmi AKSUNGUR and TEV General Manager Turgut BOZKURT. In addition to some special awards, monetary rewards of 10.000 USD, 7.500 USD and 5.000 USD were given respectively to the winner, the second and the third places.

By realizing Turkey's first international violin competition, '1st International Nuri İyicil Violin Competition', in cooperation with MSGSÜ, TEV is proud of supporting in addition to educational system also the field of art.
